This course is ideal for people who are just beginning to learn English.
The Certificate I in EAL (Access) is perfect for students who wish to
develop general English language and literacy skills to participate
effectively in the Australian community. The course will help you to
speak, read and write in simple English.
At the end of the course you will:
• Have improved vocabulary and conversation skills outside of the classroom
• Be able to read and understand short, simple sentences
• Be able to use technology to help you communicate in English
• Understand simple words and ideas from more difficult texts
• Be able to write short, simple sentences in English
• Be able to read and understand simple English on your computer,
mobile phone and the internet.
Certificate I in EAL is for learners with little or no formal education.
ACSF rating pre-level 1 to level 1 is an appropriate entry level for
learners. Your ACSF level will be assessed before you enrol.
UNITS OF STUDY
The typical structure of the Certificate I in EAL (Access)
i ncludes the following units of study:

VU21451 Participate in short simple excha nges
BSBITU101A Operate a personal computer
VU21446 Use basic digital technology
language and skills
VU21448 Read and write short, simple
informational and instructional texts
VU21450 Give and respond to short, simple
verbal instructions and information
VU21449 Read and write short simple
messages and forms
VU21445 Locate health and medical information
When you have completed this course, you can move on
to further studies in English or can choose another
vocational course to test out your new English skills.
This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom
setting so you can interact with your classmates to
practice your English skills.
The course runs two days per week for twenty weeks.
Tea and coffee are provided. You are responsible
for bringing your own lunch and snacks to class.
